Agreement Between Aims Community College and University of Phoenix Opens More Doors to Advanced Degrees
Thanks to a new arrangement, students attending Aims Community College, a two-year public college located in Northern Colorado, have access to transfer pathways and will be eligible for concurrent enrollment from University of Phoenix. The agreement is one of many that University of Phoenix has forged with community college systems in order to allow their learners to continue on their educational journey, smoothing the transition from two-year to four-year degrees and beyond. The concurrent enrollment opportunity applies to a number of the University’s career-focused degree programs including RN to bachelor of science in nursing, bachelor of science in information technology, bachelor of science in management and bachelor of science in healthcare management.
“Our new agreement with Aims Community College opens up opportunities for students to continue their educational journey to higher degrees with in-demand fields,” said John Woods, provost and chief academic officer of University of Phoenix. “We are proud to collaborate with community colleges and help busy working adult students make more efficient use of their studies, time and money in that journey.”
Through this agreement, students save on tuition costs. Nursing students in the RN to bachelor of science program, for example, receive a free course for every sixth course in the program as part of the agreement.
Aims Community College Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Russ Rothamer said the agreement will provide new opportunities for Aims’ students to “pursue higher levels of education, reduce education costs and expedite graduation timelines.”
Collaborating with Community Colleges to Open Career Pathways
The agreement with Aims Community College is the latest such effort from University of Phoenix to make it easier for students to continue their education, receiving maximum credit for courses and reduced tuition costs.
The 3+1 Transfer Pathway Program at University of Phoenix provides a similar means for students or employees of State Center Community College District (SCCCD) colleges to transfer credits and begin working toward a bachelor’s degree. Through the program, students take general course requirements at their SCCCD community college for three years and then transfer up to 87 credits to University of Phoenix for their final year. Ultimately, they need just 33 additional credits to earn their bachelor of science in business, health management, information technology or nursing from the University. As part of the process, transfer students receive dedicated guidance and staff who assist in requesting prior transcripts and evaluate prior coursework for credit to ease the transfer process.
“University of Phoenix believes strongly that transfer is a valuable path to degree completion,” said Woods. “We have a continued focus on helping students to get the most out of their transfer credits, to help them save as much time and money as possible, and to quickly leverage their degrees and enhance their career path.”
Built-in Financial Benefits for Transfer Students at University of Phoenix
Students transferring to University of Phoenix can further reduce the time and money spent on their degree program by utilizing Prior Learning Assessments (PLAs). Through PLAs, students receive college credits for skills they developed during their careers including IT certificates, military service, police academy training and real estate licenses. There are also PLA credits for life experiences like parenting and stress management that can be submitted in journal essays.
Community college students who transfer to University of Phoenix also receive a special tuition rate, saving $144 on every three-credit course. The Transfer Student Scholarship awards up to $3,000 to new students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at University of Phoenix who have at least 13-60 combined transfer credits, are continuously enrolled, and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
